The Wooing Tree is a local landmark that sits prominently in the middle of this family's central Otago vineyard. It has long been a place for locals to woo their lovers, and if it could talk, would have many a story to tell!
These days it is not quite the private spot it once was, but there are still plenty of visitors proposing marriage and even getting married under the beautiful iconic tree, amidst the vines.
New Zealand's strong nor' west winds can blow wild in Cromwell. Wind blown sands form Cromwell’s unique habitat as one of the only inland sand dunes in New Zealand and the development of Wooing Tree vineyard created a few sandstorms of its own.
Especially low yielding ripe hand picked fruit, gentle wine making and extended maturation in French oak have resulted in a complex and powerful wine.
It has aromas of ripe cherries and plums, a rich and silky smooth palate and a long spicy finish. A great example of one of the best central Otago pinot noirs.
Best rewards are gained by careful cellaring.
