Established in 1998, the aim of Valli in Otago's Gibbston valley, is to produce single vineyard wines with an emphasis on expressing the site with clarity and purity.
The wittily named Real McCoy pinot gris is Valli wine maker Grant Taylor's take on an orange wine and made from grapes which spent 20 days on skins.
The finished wine was bottled with no fining or filtration and this, along with 14 months maturation in oak, combine to lend the wine a rich body and phenolic character.
It has complex tropical fruit and anise aromas on the nose, which follow through to a wine with fresh acidity and moderate tannins adding balance and texture.
Unfined and unfiltered so natural sediment may occur. Vegan friendly.
